SLC FAQS

FAQs

Can you organise language training in any industry specialism?
Yes —Where there is no existing training programme we can work with you to create a bespoke syllabus.

Can the training syllabus be tailored?
Yes — The content of any course or learning programme can be tailored to the exact requirements of the learner(s). We can work with you to create multi-level syllabi to meet the needs of learners of various abilities and with varying needs.

Can training be delivered in multiple locations?
Yes — Programmes can take place in sites in different cities and countries, enabling cross-company syllabi to be taught in complex corporate environments around the world.

Do learners require a certain language level?
Courses and learning programmes can be tailored to the exact requirements of the learner(s). Some specialist courses require a certain general language level, but we can integrate intensive general language training into your learning programme to ensure you get the results you need.

How long does it take to learn x?
Length of study will depend on your goals and aims. Most standard language courses in all languages will be measured against the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) which describes proficiency at six levels: A1 and A2, B1 and B2, C1 and C2. Mobility between these levels takes approximately 100-200 hours of study at A1 and A2 but more at higher levels. You can find details on the CEFR in our Knowledge Bank. Our Tailor-made courses offer highly targeted contextualized language making it possible to achieve your aims in a shorter time.

What certificates or exams are available/can I take to show my progress?
The majority of school-based courses will issue a certificate of attendance and achievement. Many of our courses are focused on specific industries which have their own systems of accreditation. You can find details on industry specific exams in our Knowledge Bank.

How do I know what level I am?
Don’t worry if you are unsure about your level. All non-beginners will take a placement (level) test on the first day of their course to assess their exact level, except for one or two schools which test students in advance. In this instance we will send you the placement test by email or post for you to complete. In the case of Tailor-made and organizational level training programmes level testing will be form part of the Training Needs Analysis.
